Hurricane Harvey Updates

HRSA’s HIV/AIDS Bureau (HAB) is continuing to monitor the impact of Hurricane Harvey on our Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program clients and colleagues in Texas and Louisiana, and we have been in contact with RWHAP Parts A, B, C, D and AETC and SPNS programs to stay up-to-date on both their preparations and responses to providing services for people living with HIV.  We will continue to work with our RWHAP A – D colleagues to address any service needs for those displaced within the states.  Both Texas and Louisiana, with the respective EMAs, have implemented processes that allow displaced RWHAP clients to receive medications and services in other areas of their states.   HAB encourages RWHAP Parts A – D in the surrounding areas to consider streamlined approaches to eligibility and maximizing all available resources to ensure access to medications and services in this emergent situation.

The Texas HIV Medication Program (THMP), the state’s Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program Part B AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP), has implemented measures to help facilitate continued access to daily HIV medication for those impacted by Hurricane Harvey in the state. The steps support both program participants living with HIV and all the agencies and workers who assist those with HIV in the community. Visit the Texas Department of State Health Services website for details about services available for:

  • People living with HIV currently in the impacted area in eastern Texas
  • People living with HIV who have evacuated the impacted area and are still in Texas
  • People living with HIV who have evacuated the impacted area and are out of state
