THE OPTIONS PROJECT: A PHYSICIAN-DELIVERED INTERVENTION FOR HIV POSITIVE PATIENTS IN CLINICAL CARE

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have prioritized Prevention with Positives in its Advancing HIV Prevention for Positive initiative. HRSA has also determined that prevention with positives is a priority and developed a Special Projects of National Significance model demonstration project on this topic. Providers have told us that they:

recognize the need for risk reduction behavior among their HIV-infected patients,
understand that through their unique relationships with patients they have an opportunity to make an impact in their lives and
they need to know what interventions are efficacious and feasible especially with limited time and resources.
The OPTIONS project has demonstrated that provider-directed HIV prevention interventions can be conducted successfully in the context of a clinical setting. The purpose of this funding opportunity is to replicate and evaluate this model across a variety of HIV clinical settings.
